Germany pushes again for European army
Germany is again pressing for a European army to protect the continent at a time of rising international tensions. Defence minister Ursula von der Leyen last week spelled out her wishes for a continental force capable of swift reaction anywhere in the world. Her comments came just two months after European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker expressed his wish for an army commanded by Brussels, saying it “would help us to build a common foreign and security policy, as well as jointly assume the responsibilities of Europe in the world”. Mrs von der Leyen, talking to her Dutch counterpart in The Hague, said international crises such as the Ebola outbreak and the swift advances by Islamic militant group Islamic State could have been countered better by a well-trained European army.

Biden: 'Path has already been paved' to Iranian bomb
Iran would have enough enriched uranium within three months to be able to make up to eight nuclear weapons if negotiations with the international community blow up, Vice President Joe Biden said late Thursday, noting that "the path has already been paved" for that outcome. Biden's remarks at a dinner for the Washington Institute for Near East Policy played off concerns by critics, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, that the Obama administration is negotiating an agreement that paves the path for Iran to get a nuclear weapon. "Let's get something straight so we don't kid each other," Biden said. "They already have paved a path to a bomb's worth of material. Iran could get there now if they walked away in two to three months without a deal."

40 Percent Rise This Year in Global Immigration to Israel, Report Shows
A new report shows that Jewish immigration to Israel from around the world rose more than 40 percent in the first three months of 2015, the UK’s Guardian reported on Sunday. A total of 6,499 Jews arrived in Israel between January and March of this year, according to an interim report by the Jewish Agency for Israel. The vast majority of immigrants came from Europe, specifically Eastern Europe. 1,971 immigrants came from Ukraine to the Jewish state, the most of any country listed, marking a 215 percent rise from the same period last year. The number of Russian immigrants rose to 1,515, an almost 50 percent increase. French immigration to Israel rose by 11 percent to 1,413 while immigration from Britain saw a 43 percent rise to 166. Immigration from North America decreased by 7 percent with only 478 new arrivals between January and March.

ISIS Supporters Claim Terror Group Has Spread to Rome
ISIS supporters are claiming on social media that the group is now in Rome. Catherine Herridge reported on “Happening Now” that social media accounts with known ties to ISIS are posting threatening images, alleging that the group has spread to Rome and is poised to attack. The images include handwritten notes with ISIS slogans and show the city of Rome in the background to prove the location. One tweet reads, “Now we act with photos in your street… soon we will act with our sharp knives…the future is not far away.”

Carter says Hamas leader committed to peace, Netanyahu not
Former US president Jimmy Carter called Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal a strong proponent of the peace process Saturday, and said he wasn’t meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu because it would be “a waste of time.” The president, who has been visiting Israel and the West Bank, met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas Saturday but didn’t meet with Netanyahu or President Reuven Rivlin. He told reporters that he didn’t ask to meet with Netanyahu or his government, and never has, because it would be a “waste of time.” He told Channel 2 in an interview broadcast Saturday that he requested to meet Rivlin, but the president’s office declined.

Warren Buffett believes “that bonds are very overvalued“, and a recent survey of fund managers found that 80 percent of them are convinced that bonds have become “badly overvalued“. The most famous bond expert on the planet, Bill Gross, recently confessed that he has a sense that the 35 year bull market in bonds is “ending” and he admitted that he is feeling “great unrest”. Nobel Prize–winning economist Robert Shiller has added a new chapter to his bestselling book in which he argues that bond prices are “irrationally high”. The global bond bubble has ballooned to more than 76 trillion dollars, and interest rates have never been lower in modern history. In fact, 25 percent of all government bonds in Europe actually have a negative rate of return at this point. There is literally nowhere for the bond market to go except for the other direction, and when this bull market turns into a bear it will create chaos and financial devastation all over the planet.

The overarching theme at the 2015 Asian-African Conference in Indonesia this week was the need for “a new economic world order”. The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) were roundly criticised for failing to deliver solutions for the global economy to alleviate poverty, distribute wealth and close the inequality gap. At the opening of the conference in Jakarta, Indonesian President Joko Widodo said the World Bank and the IMF are reluctant to recognise that the world has changed. He said Asian and African countries need to build a new global economic order that is open to emerging economic powers. “The view that the world’s economic problems can only be solved by the World Bank and the IMF is an outdated view. I am of the view that the management of the global economy cannot be left only to these international financial institutions,” said Widodo.

According to GPS monitoring and geologic studies, some 33 to 50 feet (10 to 15 meters) of motion may need to be released, said Eric Kirby, a geologist at Oregon State University. The earth jumped by about 10 feet (3 m) during the devastating April 25 quake, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The World Health Organization says an increasing number of infections are no longer treatable because of growing antimicrobial resistance, putting the lives of millions of people at risk. The WHO study finds no region in the world is prepared to combat this serious global threat. Only one-quarter of the 133 countries has a comprehensive plan to fight resistance to antibiotics and other antimicrobial medicines. The survey also finds public awareness of the issue remains generally low and many people believe antibiotics are effective against viral infections. It says this leads to antibiotics being used when they are not required or effective, which can lead to resistance.

Former Commander: Next War With Hamas By End of 2015
Hamas is definitively preparing for another war against Israel, Brig. Gen. (res.) Zvika Fogel said Friday morning – hours after a rocket fired from Gaza struck the Sha’ar HaNegev region late Thursday night. “Rocket production continues,” Fogel, a former head of the IDF’s Southern Command, told Army Radio. He predicted another war by “the end of 2015 or early 2016.” Part of the problem, he indicated, is that Hamas is purposely neglecting its Palestinian Arab population, goading them into painting Israel as an even bigger scapegoat for their poverty and poor governance. “The population in the Gaza Strip since the operation [Op. Protective Edge – ed.] has been neglected, and pressure on Hamas is growing,” he noted.
