22 Bible Verses About God’s Protection

I recently became a father for the first time.  I love my son Ryan more than words can describe.  When he was first born, he wasn’t able to move around much (like most babies) but he just turned 1 a few weeks ago.  Let me just say that he is not staying still much anymore.  One of my roles as a father is to protect my son.  In today’s world, that often means baby-proofing the house (moving everything that he can harm or harm him above his reach) including putting outlet covers on every electrical outlet.  But no matter how hard I try to protect Ryan, sometimes he still falls or bumps his head as he is now walking.  But I try to protect or shield him from danger and any evil.  God protects us in many of the same ways.  Scripture is filled with passages that talk about his protection.  When I think about God as a protector, I want someone who will shield me from the hardships of life. I want him to protect me and my family from disease and things like cancer, I want him to protect my car when I travel, I want him to protect my wife at all times and the list could go on. It’s tempting to read the verses in the Bible of God as a protector with a kind of absolute interpretation—applying these verses to myself directly as true for all times and places. If I read about God as a shield, I want him to be a shield in all situations.

But does God protect us in every situation?  In one sense, we’ll never know how many times God actually protected us. However, in a world with free will to make our own choices, we can’t get around the fact that hardships await us—Jesus promised us as much.  However, he has a perfect will for us and that includes different kinds of protection.

Featured Bible Verse:  Psalm 23:1-4 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.  He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.  He restores my soul.  He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.  Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
God has a perfect will for us and that includes different kinds of protection.

Revelations 12:9 And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.
2Samuel 22:3-4 my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my savior; you save me from violence. 4 I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.

Bible Verses On Protection

Romans 8:28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
Ephesians 1:11  In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will,
Daniel 12:1  “At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince who has charge of your people. And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never has been since there was a nation till that time. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone whose name shall be found written in the book.
1John 5:18  We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.
Psalm 138:7  Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life; you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and your right hand delivers me.
T. D. Jakes once said, “That thing that is not coming to you may seem good. But either the timing is wrong, or from His position He can see that the future of it is bleak. I have always believed that people who thank God only for delivering them from what happened are just scraping the surface of praise. The real praise comes when you start thanking Him for what could have happened but didn’t because of His swift grace!”
My prayer this day is that I will remember to be thankful for God’s constant provision and protection in my life.  We don’t always know how God has protected us but we know that He is good.  Praise Him!

In His Grace,

Daryl Evans
