Dear Mint Press News reader,
TPP Is Toxic Political Poison That Politicians Should Avoid
At its root, the TPP is about modern colonialism. It is the way that Western governments and their transnational corporations, including Wall Street banks, can dominate the economies of developing nations. And it’s not too late to stop it.

Mint Press News article by Kevin Zeese and Margaret Flowers outlines the grave threat that the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) poses to America's sovereignty, economy, and democracy. Read the full article here.

Zeese and Flowers asked political leader Ralph Nader about the implications of the TPP, to which he said the TPP is a
“global corporate coup … the most brazen corporate power grab in American history.”

There is a battle in Congress over the TPP, with members of both parties in both the pro-TPP and anti-TPP camps.

The TPP was, in fact, one of the many areas where former House Speaker John Boehner agreed with President Obama. "
[Boehner] aggressively pressured Republicans to give Obama fast-track authority, pushing about 30 Republicans who opposed fast track to vote for it," writes Zeese & Flowers, which they say the internal conflict over the TPP was one of the many reasons Boehner felt pressured to resign.

"Stopping the TPP and other trade agreements is going to require a mass mobilization on the streets and online," Zeese & Flowers write. "Political activists now recognize that the TPP impacts every issue, which is good for building a unified movement against it because that is necessary." They contend that the American people are stepping up to the plate to create this unified movement.

The article highlights how a long lasting movement for trade justice is being created. It will enable the American people to resist a corporate takeover of their government through treaties like the TPP, which not only entrenches corporate/banking power, but also puts the environment at risk and takes away journalists' rights to a free press and a neutral internet.

What can be done to stop the TPP?
Take Action:
  1.      Join us in writing Congressional leadership and urging them to stop the TPP.
  1.      Join us in taking action to stop the TPP, mobilize for November actions in Washington, DC. If you can’t make it to DC there will be opportunities for you to support these actions locally.
In solidarity,
