Anti-US and anti-Israeli protesters gather outside the Injirlik airbase in southern Turkey to demand the closure of the key military facility which houses US and NATO personnel.
More than one thousand protesters, chanting anti-U-S and anti-Israel slogans, gathered in the city of Adana to demand the closure of the airbase, which stores US tactical nuclear weapons. The demonstrators were seen burning the American and Israeli flags. Police were deployed to the scene to contain the protests. Demonstrators are alleging that the base was used in connection with this month’s failed military coup. The commander of the airbase General Bekir Ercan Van was detained by Turkish authorities and accused of being complicit with the coup attempt.
